Let’s Talk About Carbon

Whether or not you believe that humans are or are not involved in climate change, things are changing. What humans can do is use science and nature to help slow the changes happening on our planet.

As an off-road adventure rider, one of the key elements that makes riding in nature is nature. Over the last decade I have become more aware of “fire season.” I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest corner of the United States. Forest fires are not unusual, but there has been a dramatic increase. Not just in the PNW but around the country. We all know the feeling of sadness when you come around a curve to set your eyes on a scorched landscape that was once vibrant with flora and fauna.

The problem of climate change seems so big, that as an individual, where do we even begin? What can we do as one person? I would urge you to think more broadly and understand and embrace the principle of compounding as you are not the only one trying to make a difference.

Motorcycle Offsetters is an organization that can help keep the atmosphere healthy and in turn give you the piece of mind that riding your beloved motorcycle is helping rather than hurting. Before I go into explaining this, please understand that it might seem too good to be true but believe me, it’s so simple and so true. Don’t you want to ride through beautiful places on your motorcycle and help to keep those places beautiful and vibrant? Start by protecting the earth and go ride your motorcycle about it.

Motorcycle Offsetters works closely with a number of other companies and organizations that work specifically to reduce the amount of carbon in our atmosphere. Motorcycle Offsetters calls them “projects.” Some are based in growing, nurturing, and protecting forests to ensure that there are healthy plants that can utilize the carbon. The other is in sequestering carbon and/or reducing the emission of carbon through cleaner processes.

How you can join the movement is by offsetting your motorcycle’s carbon footprint. Please, please, please, visit https://motorcycleoffsetters.com to get started. Plug in the make and model of your motorcycle(s), how many miles you plan on riding for the year, then adjust the percentage at which you wold like to contribute. I would encourage you to bump up the percentage to cover you and a riding buddy. It’s amazing how little it costs to make a difference. Climate change is such a big and scary thing that it can be challenging to overcome the “I can’t do anything about it” thoughts but Motorcycle Offsetters is here to help us all not feel so small anymore. They give us the opportunity to ride our motorcycles and the opportunity to stand up to climate change. Does it get any better than that?!

If you are feeling really generous, why not offset your car(s) too? Full Gear Female - Motorcycle Rider Training is operating as a carbon negative company as of 2023. All FGF motorcyles and the FGF pickup are being offset. There are three options regarding your carbon footprint, you can either be carbon negative (which means you are offsetting more than you will emit), carbon neutral (which means you’re offsetting what you emit), and carbon positive (which means you’re emitting more than you are offsetting). If you’ve made it this far, I’m going to assume you don’t want to be the last option. The truth for most of us however is we have been or still are carbon positive. I’m only just now jumping on the bandwagon, so don’t think it’s too late for you. Like contributing to a retirement fund too late, we have a lot of work to do, but it can be done. Begin with just one bike if you need. Also, Motorcycle Offsetters is a Canadian based operation meaning if you’re paying with American dollars the cost is even less. That’s a win-win.
