Gear for Off-Road Rider Training

Rider Protection

The CLEAR Moto - Motorcycle Rider Training requirements are:

  • DOT approved helmet

  • Eye protection (glasses, sunglasses, goggles, or closed visor)

  • Gloves

  • Long pants

  • Over-the-ankle/sturdy boots

Items that are recommended but not required are:

  • A Riding jacket with armor, body armor, or long sleeves

  • Riding pants with armor or independent knee armor

  • Off-Road riding boots

  • Hydration pack/backpack

Motorcycle Protection

Below is a small list of protection you can add to your motorcycle for training. There is no requirement to have any of these items.

  • Engine/Motorcycle protection bars

  • Kickstand switch protection

  • Mirrors that bend before they break (Doubletake Mirrors are a good option)

  • Skid/Bash plate

  • Handlebar guards and/or short clutch and brake levers

Tires for Off-Road Adventure Rider Training

Without getting too deep into this, anything from an 80/20 or more off-road oriented tire is appropriate for training. Please avoid using street tires. The Motorcycle Shop can be of service choosing a tire for training as they are CLEAR Moto’s support during the Alaska Special training.

Additional Considerations

Come ready to learn. If you are new to off-road riding, please understand that there may be a chance you and your motorcycle will end up on the ground. We will teach you what we can to ready you for a drop (crashes are different). Our goal is to keep all riders safe and teach the technical skills to increase overall confidence and control.

Off-road riding can cause minor to serious injury. Please participate at your own risk. All riders will to participate in CLEAR Moto - Motorcycle Rider Training will be required to complete a waiver of liability and sign an event insurance form before beginning any training. We recommend all riders protect themselves and their motorcycles as they see fit.
